With a generous donation from a local benefactor, FPAHK launched a Special Support Fund in April 2013 to offer financial assistance to needy clients. Disadvantaged, marginalized and vulnerable girls/women were the main targets for assistance. Criteria for assistance included but were not limited to the following: age below 21 years; full time students; housewives with no paid employment; education at primary level or below; single mothers; ethnic minorities; refugees; crisis cases referred by Social Welfare Department; and those whose pregnancy resulted from unwilling sex.

Funding assistance could be applied to:

  1. Halve the fees for assessment, abortion procedure, counseling and follow-up.
  2. Provide free counseling for the male partners of unwed girls below the age of 26.
  3. Halve the cost of contraceptives for one year after abortion.
  4. Halve the cost of emergency contraception.
  5. Halve the cost of vasectomy operation.

The application process was simple and the assistance would significantly ease the emotional and financial burdens of disadvantaged women and girls dealing with unwanted pregnancy.
