The 4th Hong Kong Sex Cultural Festival 2011, jointly organized by the Family Planning Association of Hong Kong (FPAHK) and the Hong Kong Sex Education Association, took place at the HKICC Lee Shau School of Creativity on 12th & 13th March 2011.

With “Seeing Sexuality in Live Art” as its theme, this year’s Festival aimed to broaden the community’s perspectives of sexuality and aesthetics through diverse forms of artistic representations, so as to enrich the realm of sexuality education. It was supported by 21 individual and group participants.

Officiating the opening ceremony was Mr. Lam Woon Kwong, Chairman of the Equal Opportunities Commission. Renowned choreographer and dancer Mr Andy Wong led his dancing group in a dance and song performance. The indoor exhibition showcased FPAHK’s poster series with sex-related themes, 2-D and 3-D visual art works, self-portraits, feet paintings, creative promotional materials, photographs and hand-painted T-shirts. Outdoor booths set up by sexual minority groups and organizations that advocate for sexuality education and sexual health provided fun activities for the public. At FPAHK’s booth, visitors enjoyed creating their own teaching dolls Tak Tak & Kar Kar out of play-dough or painting, as a way to express ideas about bodies.

Six forums on controversial topics such as transsexual’s rights, surrogate pregnancy, and nudity in art were well attended and stimulated much discussion. During the interactive Playback Theatre performance, youth audience were invited to share their own stories of love and intimacy.

The Festival received favourable response from public and local media. It provided an open platform for public to discuss and acquire knowledge about sex culture and sexual health in a relaxed atmosphere, and brought together diverse groups to voice out for sexual and reproductive health and rights.
