The Family Planning Association of Hong Kong’s (FPAHK) Women’s Clubs Community Drama Troupe received enthusiastic responses from an audience of 120 when it staged a comic drama “Bra Bra…. Keep Flying!” on 30 May at the Sheung Wan Civic Centre during the Hong Kong Sex Cultural Festival 2007.

Although laughter from the audience never stopped throughout the 15 minutes performance, “Bra Bra…. Keep Flying!” was much more than a heart-to-heart chit-chat of girlfriends inside a lingerie shop. Their humorous discussions on the different bra sizes, styles and colors and the unconscious play down of their own body prompted the audience to reflect on the myths and distorted values of sex and body image in our society.

Written specially for the Hong Kong Sex Cultural Festival by Ms Lee Yuen Bik and directed by Ms Cheung Mei Fu, both veteran members of the FPAHK Women’s Clubs, “Bra Bra… Keep Flying” is the Drama Troupe’s third play that is entirely developed, produced and performed by the women themselves.

A post-performance interactive discussion among performers and the audience was conducted by Ms Jo Lee, a renowned feminist writer. The play was well received by the local press, and was planned to tour around local communities in the coming months for more public sharing.
