#TAG-Addicted Music Party 2023

We often see teenagers mentioning hashtags online such as #wageslave, #straight man, #BLlovers, etc.…Everyone talks about hashtags, but does everyone recognize the meaning of hashtags?

Sponsored by Gilead Sciences, Inc., the Association’s Sexuality Education Youth Volunteer Team Red Face No More (RFNM) organized a #TAG-Addicted Music Party at ohm…Café and Bar in Sham Shui Po on 18 November 2023 (Saturday), using music and games to communicate with teenagers about the impact label culture has on the general public.

On that day, in addition to the Live Band "Noelle and Friends" performing a variety of music related to the label, members of the RFNM also played games with participants, such as "Happy Return," "9upper," and "Ring of Fire," allowing youth participants to examine the effect labels have on different groups in society, such as stereotypes imposed on LGBT+ and HIV-infected people and expectations for boys and girls, etc. Through this event, youth understood the effect behind such labels, while they learnt that social labels imposed on certain groups may be biased.

In addition to allowing participants to reflect on the impact of labels, there is hope that they understood the meaning behind such labels. One participant reflected that the event allowed him to find his label, and learn how to deal with labels he disliked; others felt pleased to exchange views on labels and gender minorities with different people at the event.

A total of 36 youth participated in the activity. The participants appreciated the content, format and style of the activity and hoped to participate in upcoming interesting community sexuality education programs in the future.
