Female Sterilization

This is a permanent method of contraception in which the fallopian tubes are surgically closed so that the egg cannot travel down to meet the sperm. Female sterilization should only be considered if no more children are desired.

The operation is immediately effective. Very rarely, the tubes rejoin and pregnancy can occur. Possible complications include bleeding, infection and injuries to other organs. The Family Planning Association of Hong Kong refers women who wish to have female sterilization to hospitals for the operation.
