To gather information and photographs for the ICPD+15 campaign and IPPF’s Annual Programme Review, photographer Peter Caton and journalist Cristiane Aoki visited FPAHK from 24 April to 4 May 2009. They spent more than a week with our peer sex educators, peer counsellors, youth clients and programme staff.

Peter and Cristiane were warmly received by our Youth Council members, Frederick Lai and Carmen Pun, getting to know the lives and experiences of young people in Hong Kong, and gaining a perspective on the youth culture and sex culture in this vibrant city. Interviews were arranged for them with a mother and a daughter of Women’s Club, a dating couple and an abortion client to collect personal stories on how our programmes and services impacted their lives. The two visitors also had the chance to observe a secondary school talk and interview students. They attended a primary school talk, two supervision meetings with youth volunteers, and visited the Mobile Library.

The photo-case studies that Peter and Cristiane developed captured the spirit of the Association’s youth SRH programmes and the interactive dynamics that shape young people growing up in Hong Kong We hope that these stories and images can be shared with other people around the world.
