The Family Planning Association of Hong Kong’s (FPAHK) Sexual and Reproductive Health Campaign was honoured to be one of the ten outstanding projects awarded by the Health Care and Promotion Fund* (HCPF) on 22 June 2006.

The concept of Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) took root in the early 90’s as the key to improving the quality of life and population development. In 1999, FPAHK introduced the concept of SRH to the Hong Kong public through a series of roving exhibitions. Eighty exhibition panels on adolescent health, pre-pregnancy and pregnancy care, family planning, sexual harmony, male and female health issues were produced. With funding support from the HCPF, these were exhibited in busy shopping malls and community centers between March and September 1999, and over 13,000 participants attended the exhibitions.

In the years following the Campaign, FPAHK launched various public education programmes together with a spectrum of services catering to public’s evolving SRH needs. These included menopausal health, emergency contraception, men’s SRH, marriage & sex counseling, cervical disease, subfertility, female urinary incontinence, osteoporosis etc.

For its wide-reaching impact on the health of the community, FPAHK’s SRH Campaign was selected as one of the outstanding project from among 115 projects which have received funding from the HCPF since the Fund’s inception in 1995. The Association is proud to receive this recognition of its efforts to promote SRH in Hong Kong.

*The HCPF was set up in 1995 by the Health, Welfare and Food Bureau of the Government of Hong Kong to support projects that help Hong Kong people adopt healthier lifestyles by enhancing awareness, changing behavior or creating an environment that supports good health practices. http://www.hwfb.gov.hk/grants/index.html
