FPAHK expands full grant programme to benefit more childbearing-age couples with needs for fertility-related services

The Family Planning Association of Hong Kong (FPAHK) has expanded its first full grant programme to provide eligible childbearing-age individuals with a series of fertility-related services, namely the Jockey Club “FertiWell” Programme, to benefit more couples to prepare for family formation.

Funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the programme is implemented in four phases during a course of four years from 2024 to 2028. Starting from the current phase (April 2025 to March 2026), the scope of target beneficiaries has been expanded from only recipients of Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) Scheme to cover four more categories of government aid schemes.

After the expansion, target beneficiaries must be childbearing-age women and/or men aged 18 or above, and the applicant(s) or a core family member residing with them must, currently or in the six months prior to the submission of application, be recipient(s) of any of the following categories of government assistance:

(a) Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) Scheme;

(b) Working Family Allowance Scheme;

(c) Student Financial Assistance Schemes (including the School Textbook Assistance Scheme / Student Travel Subsidy Scheme / Subsidy Scheme for Internet Access Charges);

(d) Scheme on Living Allowance for Carers of Elderly Persons from Low-income Families;

(e) Non-eligible Persons Medical Fee Waiver of Public Hospitals and Clinics.

Services covered are as follows: Women's Health Check-up (including Cervical Cytology (Liquid-based Cytology) or Co-test (HPV DNA testing + cervical cytology) if applicable), PREPARE Couple Relationship Assessment & Pre-Marriage Preparation Group (for couples who are about-to-wed or have been cohabiting for less than a year), Pre-marital Check-up, Pre-pregnancy Check-up, Early Pregnancy Assessment or NIFTY proTM (Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing) (for women who are pregnant within 12 weeks of gestation) and Female Subfertility Service.

Through this programme, FPAHK aims to raise public awareness of sexual and reproductive health and early family planning and assist childbearing-age individuals to plan their families early in order to attain their ideal number of children. At the same time, it provides support to allow couples access to appropriate fertility-related clinical and counselling services to reduce their barriers to childbearing.

The second phase of the Jockey Club “FertiWell” Programme is now open for application. For details of the programme and services, online application and enquiry, please visit the programme’s webpage on FPAHK’s Website: https://www.famplan.org.hk/textonly/en/.
