FPAHK’s 64th Annual General Meeting

The Family Planning Association of Hong Kong held its 64th Annual General Meeting today. The new Chairman and Council Members were elected. Prof. Agnes Tiwari, Chairman of The Nursing Council of Hong Kong was present as the Guest of Honour.

In his address to the AGM, FPAHK’s Chairman Dr. Cheung Kai Bun congratulated Prof. Hextan Ngan, FPAHK’s President on her being awarded the International Planned Parenthood Federation ESEAOR Volunteer Award this year. This international award recognized her leadership in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights as well as her invaluable contribution beyond the national boundaries.

Reporting on the Association’s major works and accomplishments in the past year, FPAHK’s Executive Director Dr. Susan Fan said the Cervical Cancer Vaccination Pilot Scheme commissioned by the Community Care Fund and launched in October 2016 had served nearly 30,000 girls from low-income families by the closing date at the end of September 2019. The Association would continue to promote the prevention of cervical cancer through its ongoing services in education, Pap smear screening and vaccination.

With 2019 marking the Association’s Menopause Service’s 20th anniversary, a series of initiatives themed “Love Yourself” was launched early this year, including a newspaper advertorial, a thematic webpage, posting of “Tak and Kar” illustrations on social media and distribution of specially designed souvenirs for Menopause Service users to disseminate menopause health messages. The Women’s Clubs’ 40th Anniversary was also celebrated with a host of activities and concluded with the Prize Presentation of the “Women’s Health Smart Phone Video Competition” in March.

In October, the Association again partnered with The Education University of Hong Kong to co-organize the 7th Asian Conference on Sexuality Education 2019. Themed “Challenges of Sexuality Education: Inclusion, Relevance, Comprehensiveness”, the fully packed 2-day Conference was a platform for over 200 sexuality educators and youth workers from the region to share expertise, exchange experiences and explore challenges.

Acknowledging the dedication of the Association’s staff, Dr Fan noted that the Association had extended its retirement age from 60 to 65 to embrace the value of staff skills and experience. Paid maternity leave had also been extended from 10 weeks to 14 weeks to forge a family-friendly work environment.

Concluding the AGM, Dr. Cheung expressed the Association’s gratitude to the Government, volunteers, donors and service users for their generous support and contributions.
