Press Notice - Youths to challenge “Getting to Zero” app game and fight AIDS together with I Love You Boyz and Chocolate Rain
To mark the World AIDS Day, observed annually on 1 December, the Red Ribbon Centre (RRC) of the Department of Health and the Family Planning Association of Hong Kong (FPAHK) are organizing the “Getting to Zero” World AIDS Campaign 2014 Kick-off Ceremony at the Plaza of Shatin Town Hall on 29 November, 2014 (Saturday). A “Getting to Zero” Sexuality Education Game Mobile Application will be officially released later this month for free public download.
The objective of the “Getting to Zero” World AIDS Campaign 2014 Kick-off Ceremony and the “Getting to Zero” Sexuality Education Game is to raise public awareness of HIV/AIDS and the three important goals in implementing AIDS-related policies, namely zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination, and zero AIDS-related deaths.
In the app game, the player has three missions in line with the World AIDS Campaign: (1) to kill the HIV virus and protect Hong Kong people from infection; (2) to provide continuous treatment to those infected to prevent their conditions from getting worse and to prevent deaths; (3) to clarify myths stemmed from misunderstanding about HIV/AIDS and infected patients, which would cause further discrimination in society.
Through the game, players can learn more about HIV/AIDS, routes of transmission, methods of prevention and the importance of safer sex. It also helps clarify their misunderstanding about HIV/AIDS and infected patients, learn to effectively protect themselves, treat people living with HIV with acceptance, respect and care, and understand that creating a fair and safe environment helps them live with dignity and fight the disease.
“Getting to Zero” Sexuality Education Game is available for download on Android and iOS mobile phones and tablets. A DVD version will be released for use on desktop computers. It will also be available in FPAHK’s Activity and Resource Centre and Mobile Classroom.
Players who have got through all three stages can win the “Zero Death” Badge, “Zero Infection” Badge and “Zero Discrimination” Badge. They will receive a gift redemption number for redeeming a lovely souvenir specially designed by Chocolate Rain at the “Getting to Zero” World AIDS Campaign 2014 Kick-off Ceremony held on 29 November 2014. Each redemption number can be used only once. The offer is valid while stocks last.
The “Getting to Zero” World AIDS Campaign 2014 Kick-off Ceremony features light-hearted and wholesome programmes appealing to youths and the general public. Pop duo “I Love You
Boyz” (ILUB) will be the masters of ceremony. Other highlights range from drama, street dance and rock music performances presented by youths to booths of DIY pom-pom loom rubber band bracelet, snapshot selfie studio and games hosted by the Hong Kong Coalition of AIDS Service Organizations (HKCASO).
RRC and FPAHK organize the Life-Skills Based Education on HIV/AIDS in the school year of 2014-15. Life-Skills Based Education Workshop are provided to 11 participating secondary schools to help approximately 1,500 students develop life skills in decision making, critical thinking, self-understanding and management, communication and interpersonal relations, etc., which are related to sexual health and HIV/AIDS prevention.
