This year’s theme is “Sex and Fashion”

The Hong Kong Sex Cultural Festival (HKSCF), first founded in 2006, is a free sexuality education event for all citizens. It aims to create a platform for open and respectful discussion about sex and encourage reflection and discussion on issues, particularly controversial ones, related to sex and sexuality in the society. It also aims to enhance understanding of the diversity of local sex cultures and different dimensions and views of sexuality with a view to promoting acceptance of differences, mutual understanding and harmony within the community as well as advancing sexuality education in Hong Kong.

Prof. Stanislaus Lai, President of HKSEA and HKSCF Organizing Committee member said in a press briefing today that with the theme “Sex and Fashion”, this year’s Festival focused on exploring how the design, history and application of fashion were related to sex cultures and social politics and the impacts of conventional dress codes on the sexual health of modern people.

Ms. Grace Lee, FPAHK’s Education Manager and HKSCF Organizing Committee member said this year’s 4-day Festival, supported by more than 20 individuals and group participants, would feature a diverse series of exhibitions and forums. The Opening Ceremony would be held at 1:00 pm on 28 March (Saturday). The highlight of the Opening Ceremony will be a fashion drama jointly presented by artist Ms. Lana Wong and Teen AIDS’s “Touch Theatre”. It tells the story of several high school students travelling through time in the cyberspace in search of the sexiest attires to discover the significant relationship between sex and fashion. This drama explores the issues of gender stereotypes, sex and power, sex and health, and sexual attraction in different cultures. An entire collection of apparels are specially designed by the designers from the Hong Kong Apparel Society Ltd for this show.

The exhibitions will run for four consecutive days at JCCAC’s Gallery. Six exhibitions will be hosted by: drag queen Coco Pop; Kock Fung, multi-media artist, member of Theatrideo and online radio host; Hong Kong Institute of Education’s Department of Health and Physical Education; Action Q, an LGBT tertiary students’ group; artist Lennie Chui; Action for Reach Out, a service group for women sex workers. FPAHK and HKSEA will respectively host a snapshot selfie studio and a theme exhibition.

The online “Survey on Sex and Fashionwas conducted from November 2014 to February 2015 as part of the Festival to learn about the public’s views on fashion and see how fashion was related to gender and sex cultures. Nearly 650 respondents were polled. HKSCF Organizing Committee member and Executive Committee Member of HKSEA Dr. Joseph Cho said the survey findings showed that the majority of the respondents selected their clothes based on these criteria in a descending order: appeal to one’s own eyes, meeting their budget, functionality and suiting their personal style. The survey found that the sexist wear were business suits, swim briefs/swimsuits, vests and uniforms for men, and cheongsams, swimsuits, lingerie and short skirts for women. Tight-fitting, see-through and low-cut clothes were considered to attract sexual interest the most. Most respondents said they would buy sexy underwear to make their sexual life more fun. Corsets, T-backs and ties were named the top three apparel items that should disappear from the earth because they restrained the body, were impractical and harmful to health, including sexual health.

Artist Ms. Lanna Wong had an interesting dialogue with Prof. Ng, sharing tips on how to dress sexy and attractively at any age.
