Gingerbread Christmas Party 2024
In the society, many people understand gender as either male or female. This traditional binary framework overlooks those gender minorities such as intersex and transgender people, and even labelling others.
To enhance youth understanding of gender and transgender individuals, the Youth Volunteer Team “Red Face No More” collaborated with “Quarks” to organize a Gingerbread Christmas Party at PH3 in Wan Chai on December 15, 2024. In the party, 22 youths got to know each other, learn about the concept of the “Gender Gingerbread Man” and daily lives of the transgender persons through games.
On that day, participants were required to use virtual roles to find a suitable “Gingerbread Partner.” During this game, some participants expressed that when they knew the biological sex of the virtual role was female, but the gender identity was male, they felt very conflicted. In the end, many “gingerbread men” successfully found their partners and exchanged small gifts with one another. At the end of the activity, participants decorated their own gingerbread cookies with different colors of chocolate sauce to create their unique “gingerbread men”, for the purpose of encouraging participants to appreciate themselves and respect the uniqueness of others.
