Sex Q&A

I have been taking oral pills but 2 days before the intercourse I have finished the 21 cycle. I had sexual intercourse during the 7-day pill free break. Is my chance of getting pregnant high?

You need not panic if you have been taking oral pills consistently and correctly. Both the 21-day pack and the 28-day pack offer high protection against pregnancy. If you are taking the 21-day pack, you are protected against pregnancy during the 7 days pill-free interval. Oral pills are very effective if used properly. Its effectiveness drops if it is taken irregularly. If you have not been taking the pills properly, emergency contraception is an alternative to prevent unwanted pregnancy. Emergency contraceptive pills can be taken within 72 or 120 hours after unprotected sexual intercourse or an Intra-uterine Contraceptive Device (IUCD) can be inserted within 5 days of unprotected sex.
