FPAHK’s new online Sexual and Reproductive Health CNE Program covers genetic screening and co-testing for cervical screening

 

The Family Planning Association of Hong Kong (FPAHK) will conduct the online “Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) Program in Sexual and Reproductive Health 2023” in May this year, which will cover the latest knowledge in genetic screening and co-testing for cervical screening. Delivered by a genetics and genomics specialist, a doctor from Department of Health’s Red Ribbon Centre and FPAHK’s senior doctor and counsellor, this program aims to enhance nursing personnel’s professional knowledge in genetic screening, HIV/AIDS, cervical cancer screening and adolescent sexual and reproductive health (SRH) counselling. Recruitment has begun. 

“Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) Program in Sexual and Reproductive Health 2023” comprises 4 sessions, to be conducted at 6:00-7:30 p.m. via Zoom - online interactive platform, in Cantonese supplemented with English. The details are as follows: 

1.  Knowledge on Genetic Screening for High-risk Couples 

       Date:        4 May 2023 (Thu)

       Lecturers:  Dr. CHONG Shuk-ching, Josephine, Specialist in Genetics and Genomics (Paediatrics)

       Content: Introduction to genetic screening tests and counselling for high-risks couples; available resources for referral in Hong Kong (HK) 

2.  Updates on HIV Epidemiology, Testing, Treatment and Prophylaxis 

       Date:         11 May 2023 (Thu)

       Lecturer:     Dr. SIT Yao-wai, Alfred, Special Preventive Programme, Department of Health

       Content:     Updates on latest HIV epidemiology, testing, treatment and prophylaxis, available resources for referral in HK

3.  Updates on Cervical Cancer Screening and Prevention 

       Date:        18 May 2023 (Thu)

       Lecturer:  Dr. WONG Ching-yin, Grace, Senior Doctor, FPAHK

       Content:     Changes in cervical cancer screening and prevention recommendations and the contributions from FPAHK 

4.  Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Counselling for Nurses 

       Date:         24 May 2023 (Wed)

       Lecturer:     Mr. KO Wai-tun, Presley, Counsellor, FPAHK

       Content:    Adolescents’ view on sexuality and their sex-related concerns, principles and communication skills in working with adolescents, application of crisis intervention in dealing with unprotected sex and unplanned pregnancy  

This program caters to registered nurses, enrolled nurses, registered midwives and other interested health care professionals. Apart from enhancing and updating learners’ professional knowledge, this program will also help them understand nursing personnel’s role in promoting SRH and strengthen their confidence in managing relevant SRH cases. Each session carries 1.5 CNE points, amounting to 6 points in total for the whole program. The fee is HK$275 for each session and HK$990 for all 4 sessions. Application closes on 24 April 2023.
