Merger of FPAHK's Ma Tau Chung Women's Club and Lam Tin Women's Club

The Family Planning Association of Hong Kong (FPAHK) announces the merger of its Ma Tau Chung (MTC) Women’s Club and Lam Tin Women’s Club, effective from 1 April.

Having served the Kowloon City District for 11 years since its establishment in 2002, the Ma Tau Chung Women’s Club’s clubhouse will be closed and its memberships transferred to the Lam Tin Women’s Club next month. All membership privileges and obligations will remain unchanged without any additional charge.

Doris Tsoi, Fieldwork Officer of FPAHK said, “After reviewing the operation of the Women’s Club, we reckon that merging the two Women’s Clubs will allow better utilization of resources, members transitioning from Ma Tau Chung Women’s Club to Lam Tin Women’s Club to benefit from the latter’s more diverse activities, and members of various volunteer teams to serve on a bigger platform of the Women’s Club.”

As early as in 1978, FPAHK started opening Women’s Clubs in temporary housing areas. For over three decades, the Women’s Club has been dedicated to promoting family planning and sexual and reproductive health, as well as helping women to develop their potential and enhance their self-confidence through training in its mission to advance women’s social status. Following the merger, FPAHK will still has six Women’s Clubs, located in Sheung Shui, Lam Tin, Ma On Shan, Tuen Mun, Tseung Kwan O and Yuen Long, with more than 16,000 members in total.

Besides enhancing grassroots women’s health awareness, the Women’s Club has trained more than 400 volunteers, under such projects as “FPAHK Ambassadors”, “Bone Health Ambassadors” and “Financial Literacy Ambassadors”, etc., to serve needy groups in the community. Through other service programmes tailored to the needs of the elderly, ethnic minorities, and women with intellectual disabilities, etc., the Women’s Club further reaches out to various groups in the community with information and messages on health and healthcare.
