Press Notice: World AIDS Campaign 2017: FAMA and Phil Lam support students' creative efforts in promoting “Know AIDS, No AIDS”
To mark the World AIDS Day, observed annually on 1 December, the Red Ribbon Centre (RRC) of the Department of Health and the Family Planning Association of Hong Kong (FPAHK) will jointly hold the World AIDS Campaign 2017 “Know AIDS, No AIDS” Creative School Projects on HIV/AIDS Prevention Award Presentation Ceremony at 3/F iSQUARE, Tsim Sha Tsui from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. this Saturday (18 November, 2017). Popular rap duo FAMA and singer Phil Lam will join hearts with youths to support students’ creative efforts in organizing HIV/AIDS education projects on campus to appeal to their peers to fight against the epidemic and the Campaign’s aim to enhance the general public’s knowledge and awareness of HIV/AIDS.
“Know AIDS, No AIDS”, the theme of this year’s World AIDS Campaign, is in line with the 2016–2021 Strategy adopted by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS): “On the Fast-Track to Accelerate the Fight against HIV and to End the AIDS Epidemic”. The specific targets set to be reached by 2020 are: (1) achieving 90-90-90: 90% of people living with HIV knowing their HIV status; 90% of people who know their HIV-positive status on treatment; and 90% of people on treatment with suppressed viral loads; (2) reducing the annual number of new HIV infections to below 500,000 globally; and (3) achieving zero discrimination. By 2030, the treatment targets would be 95-95-95 and the annual number of new HIV infections reduced to below 200,000 globally.
Under Secretary for Food and Health Dr Chui Tak-yi, Director of Health Dr Constance Chan and FPAHK’s Chairman Ms Lina Yan will officiate at the kick-off ceremony of the World AIDS Campaign 2017. Local organizations involved in AIDS work and relevant health departments from Macau and Shenzhen are also invited to show their support for the Campaign.
Another event highlight is to commend the students who participated in the 2017/18 “Know AIDS, No AIDS” Creative School Projects on HIV/AIDS Prevention for proactively promoting HIV/AIDS education on campus. Under this programme, jointly organized by FPAHK and RRC during July to November, 8 secondary schools and 2 universities each formed a team of 5-8 students. The student ambassadors attended a series of training, including sexuality education workshops, condom making workshop and sharing sessions given by youth AIDS service NGOs (Hong Kong AIDS Foundation and Teen’s Key - Young Women Development Network), to acquire knowledge on HIV/AIDS, sexual health and safer sex with a positive attitude. Applying what they had learnt, they devised creative education projects, including leading the school assembly to sing their originally written song, video / music video production, drama production, social experiment, story writing and slogan design contests, riddle and booth games, and panel exhibition, etc., then implemented their project on their own campus to disseminate their HIV/AIDS prevention messages and uploaded snapshots of their project onto the social media to appeal to their peers for better understanding and awareness of HIV/AIDS.

Winners of the “Social Media Award” and “Creativity Award”, selected respectively based on the number of “likes” and “shares” received on Facebook and by the organizers, will be announced and presented with the awards at the ceremony.
The event will feature light-hearted and wholesome programmes. In addition to the appearance of rap duo FAMA as the masters of ceremony, pop singer Phil Lam as guest performer and the condom mascots, there will be youth performances by The Church of Christ in China Kwei Wah Shan College’s music band “The Next Generation” and Tsuen Wan Public Ho Chuen Yiu Memorial College’s a cappella group. Youths, parents and all members of the public are welcome to join for free.
