FPAHK’s 63rd Annual General Meeting

The Family Planning Association of Hong Kong held its 63rd Annual General Meeting yesterday. The new Chairman and Council Members were elected. Dr. Leung Wing Cheong, President of The Hong Kong College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists was present as the Guest of Honour.

FPAHK’s Chairman Dr. Cheung Kai Bun shared in his address the latest findings of the “FPAHK’s Family Planning Knowledge, Attitude and Practice Survey 2017” just released two days ago.

FPAHK’s Executive Director Dr. Susan Fan reported on the Association’s major works and accomplishments in the past year. On clinical services, FPAHK was commissioned by the Community Care Fund (CCF) to launch the Cervical Cancer Vaccination Pilot Scheme to provide free human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination to eligible girls in October 2016. Response to the scheme had been positive. The scope of the scheme was expanded in April this year to cover more eligible girls. Since its beginning, the scheme had served a total of nearly 20,000 girls. Late last year, the CCF rolled out another 3-year pilot scheme to provide free or subsidized cervical cancer screening and preventive education for eligible low-income women. FPAHK was one of the service providers commissioned to implement this scheme, proving the widespread social recognition and great popularity of its professional quality services among the public.

Dr. Fan said the Association was offering Pap smears at a discounted fee to women receiving HPV vaccination at the FPAHK during November this year to March next year to encourage them to undergo cervical cancer screening regularly. On top of the “Non-invasive Fetal TrisomY test (NIFTY)” introduced in November last year, the NIFTY pro which covered more test items was added in July this year as an option to give parents-to-be greater assurance.

She noted that the “Tak Tak Kar Kar Sexuality Education Series for Young Children” published by FPAHK had long been a good teaching aid for parents to talk about sex with their toddlers. In recent years, a Mainland Chinese publisher had been negotiating with the Association over purchasing its publishing right. As a result, the resource’s simplified Chinese version had just been published in the Mainland China allowing more parents to deliver early sexuality education at home. In addition, FPAHK launched a Peer Councelling Facebook Page in January this year replacing the former e-Counselling Service to provide relief to youths facing relationship distress.

FPAHK’s President Prof. Hextan Ngan extended the Association’s gratitude to the Government, its volunteers, donors and service users for their generous support and contributions.
