A Seminar on Youth Sexuality and the Internet

FPAHK held a seminar to share findings of the Youth Sexuality Study (YSS) 2016, and to discuss how we may address the issue of young people’s exposure to online pornography and dating apps/websites.

The seminar was attended by 44 participants, mostly teachers and social workers. Ms Grace Lee, Education Manager, FPAHK, presented key findings of YSS 2016 related to youth’s habit of viewing pornography, whether they used mobile phones to receive or transmit pornographic messages and images, and their experience of “strip chat”. Guest speakers included Mr Eric Chu, social worker from U Touch, The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, and Mr Koo Kam Wing, sex therapist from Hong Kong Caritas. They shared their field experience and stimulated discussion on the issues of casual sex, prevalence of dating apps/ websites, influence of online pornography on couples’ intimate relationships, and the need for comprehensive sexuality education which addresses the challenges posed by social media on young people.

Participants’ feedback was positive. They treasured the opportunity to share the issues with speakers and get familiarized with the resources developed by the Association.
