FPAHK funded by The Sir Robert Ho Tung Charitable Fund to acquire disinfection equipment essential for women’s health services

The Family Planning Association of Hong Kong (FPAHK) has been allocated a grant of HK$152,000 in 2022 from The Sir Robert Ho Tung Charitable Fund (the Fund) for acquiring an Ultraviolet C (UVC) Light-emitting High-level Disinfection System essential for providing quality women’s health services.

FPAHK provides a range of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services for women in which transvaginal ultrasonograms (TVUS) are commonly performed. TVUS is performed with a probe inserted into the vagina and strict decontamination of the probe is essential. According to current infection control guidelines in Hong Kong, any TVUS probe that is contaminated with blood or other biological fluid must undergo high-level disinfection.

With the installation of the UVC Light-emitting High-level Disinfection System in FPAHK’s Wan Chai Sexual and Reproductive Health Centre in November last year, a safe and cost effective method is available to disinfect ultrasound probes and prevent cross-infections between clients.

The FPAHK expresses its gratitude to the Fund for its generous donation in support of its work in providing SRH services to the public over the years. This has enabled FPAHK’s continuous expansion of service scope and enhancement of service quality and thus promoting the sexual and reproductive health of Hong Kong citizens.

For details on the FPAHK’s services, please visit the FPAHK Website at www.famplan.org.hk/en, or call the FPA Clinic Services Hotline at 2572-2222.
