FPAHK to host The 7th Cross-Strait, Hong Kong and Macau Conference on Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health and calling for abstracts

The Family Planning Association of Hong Kong (FPAHK) and the School of Nursing of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University will jointly organize The 7th Cross-Strait, Hong Kong and Macau Conference on Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health next year in Hong Kong.  Healthcare professionals, researchers, educators and policymakers from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan will convene on 28-30 May 2021 (Friday to Sunday) at the Jockey Club Auditorium at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.  The main theme of the Conference isCare and Connect: The Changing World of Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health”The Conference is now open for submission of abstracts. 

In light of the global challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Conference has invited Professor Michael Kidd, Deputy Chief Medical Officer with the Australian Government Department of Health, to deliver the keynote address on “COVID-19 and the Changing World of Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health”.  Prof Kidd is the Deputy Chief Medical Officer and Principal Medical Advisor with the Australian Government Department of Health, and Professor of Primary Care Reform at The Australian National University.  He is a family doctor, a past president of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, a past president of the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA), and a past Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Flinders University.  Prior to joining the Australian Government Department of Health, he was Director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre on Family Medicine and Primary Care, and Professor and Chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto in Canada.  As a world-leading authority on primary health care, his contribution to the coronavirus response is focused on how the health system can evolve to meet the current needs of the Australian community – bringing quality health care into homes. 

The Conference will cover the following themes:

  • Puberty: Development and Challenges
  • Sexuality and Gender in the Social Media
  • Dating and Gender Violence
  • Sexuality Education and Counselling
  • Prevention of STIs and HPV Vaccination
  • Public Health Policies, Student Health Systems and Primary Health Care 

The Conference is calling for abstracts of papers and oral presentations on the latest research, sharing of frontline experience and case studies on the above themes. Abstracts should be typed in English or Chinese. Presentation should be conducted in Putonghua or Cantonese for accepted abstracts written in Chinese and conducted in English for those written in English. The deadline for abstract submission is 12 December 2020 and notification of abstract acceptance will be issued by 22 January 2021.

The Cross-Strait, Hong Kong and Macau Conference on Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health was launched in 2009 in Ningbo, China by the China Family Planning Association. It has since been convened biennially –– in 2011 and 2019 in Taipei, Taiwan, 2013 in Hong Kong, 2015 in Macau and 2017 in Sichuan, Chengdu.
