Emergency Contraceptive
I have some questions about post-intercourse pills. Because of the leakage of condom, my gf take the pills within 12 hrs after the accident. She has already had menstruation but the amount of blood was lesser than normal. Will we have baby in this case?
Emergency contraceptive pills (ECPs) should be prescribed by a health care provider. A woman should consult her health care provider first to make sure that she has no contra-indications to using the pills. Also, ECPs must be taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex. ECPs prevent most pregnancies but they are not 100% effective. The treatment fails in approximately 2% of women using ECPs correctly. If your girlfriend had not consulted a healthcare professional before, we would advise her to see one as soon as possible to make sure that if she has taken the correct dosage and that if any follow-up is necessary. The Family Planning Association of Hong Kong also offers consultation service for emergency contraception. Can Microgynon 30ED be used as emergency contraception? Are 4 pills enough?
Microgynon 30ED can be used for emergency contraception but the dosage must be correct - 4 pills should be taken as the first dose within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse followed by a second dose of another 4 pills 12 hours later. Please note that emergency contraceptive pills must be taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex. A copper "T" IUD can be inserted by a trained health care provider within 5 days of unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy. If you have any doubt about the pills, you can approach our Birth Control Clinics or Youth Health Care Centres (for unmarried people under the age of 26) for emergency contraception service and counselling. Can I buy the emergency contracetive pills in drugstores or I have to go to the hospital? (If possible, please recommend places where I can get ECPs)I made love with my girlfriend this morning. Thanks!
Emergency contraceptive pills (ECPs) should be prescribed by a health care provider and should not be purchased over the counter at drugstores without authorized prescription. Besides,a woman should consult her doctor first to make sure she has no contra-indications to using the pills. Since it has been a while since your last sexual intercourse happened, we would advise your girlfriend to wait and see if her next period comes on time. If not, she will have to take a pregnancy test to confirm whether unplanned pregnancy has occurred. Our clinics and Youth Health Care Centres(for unmarried youth under the age of 26) provide pregnancy test and counselling for unplanned pregnancy.
