Service Content
Suction evacuation for termination of pregnancy is performed under local anaesthesia in our operation theatre in accordance with the law. Counselling is provided before and after the operation. Referral to Hospital Authority or private hospitals can also be arranged upon request. Please call any FPA clinics for enquiries.
FPAHK only offers abortion services for pregnancy up to 10 weeks gestation at the day of operation. If the pregnancy is advanced or the applicant is not physically suitable to have the abortion in the Association, she may need to be referred to a public or private hospital instead.
Notes:
Applicants for abortion should prepare to visit us at least twice. Our nurse will collect your personal and family medical history, perform urine pregnancy test and Pap test at your first visit to the Association. This is a serious decision thus we hope you will take time to reconsider your choices after receiving basic information and counselling from our nurse. The nurse will offer you a second appointment to see the doctor for further discussion and assessment after you have considered your options seriously. During your second visit, our doctor will need to perform physical and pelvic examinations in order to assess the operation risk and determine whether you are suitable to undergo abortion in the Association. You should expect the operation to be carried out about 2 weeks after the initial nurse visit.
Abortion can only be performed in compliance with the Law of Hong Kong. The Family Planning Association and other public and private hospitals are the only gazetted premises which can carry out legal abortion.
If the pregnancy is too advanced, or you are not suitable to have abortion in the Family Planning Association, we will refer you to other hospitals for assessment and further management. Please be reminded that the referral only facilitates your booking at the hospital. The attending doctor in that hospital will make the final decision as to whether it is suitable for you to have the abortion there.
